STOUR VALLEY

UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE

ABOUT US

Early records show the first meeting was held in the Lambe School ,East Bergholt on October 2nd 1990 under the Chairmanship of John Loynes.  Membership comprised of 25 – 30 local residents who participated in 3 Study Groups, Antiques, Poetry Reading and Games. Over the years interest in monthly Lectures together with the setting up of a wide range of Study Groups necessitated a change of venue to accommodate the increased membership.  Monthly meetings are now held in the Constable Memorial Hall, East Bergholt, usually on the second Wednesday of the month at 2.15pm under the Chairmanship of Mrs Lucy Marshall.

An annual subscription of £11.00 entitles members to attend lectures and join Study Groups of their choice.  Each Study Group has a leader.  Ideas for new Study Groups are discussed by the Committee prior to being set up.  Although meetings are held in East Bergholt, the U3A Stour Valley incorporates members from a wide  area including Dedham, Brantham, Ipswich, Stutton and Tattingstone to name but a few.  Non-members, on an admission fee of £3.00, can attend any of the monthly Lectures.

These few photographs portray the peace and tranquillity of the Stour Valley - a heritage we are proud of and should protect for future generations.
